“Reflexions on a city”
«faced with the images’ plethora that we daily consume, there are some that need to be tasted, decrypted, need an space and time to enter into and enjoy.»
The city, a manmade creation for his wellbeing, has taken the power over him, and some sort of transformation occurred. From the state of an actor, a space builder, man has become a sort of unconscious victim, single tool, food for «concrete relish». Roles are inverted without any awareness.
The order goes with rentability as well as entertainment. Violence is prohibited or at least channeled; graffiti soon erased, and art confined.
However I like the city as everything is significant. And for those who can read the light, poetry appears from our common everyday life.
These images came from a New York serie that have been shown in 1996 in the American Cultural Center in Brussels.
